And He does that through the blood of His Son as we trust in Christ alone to forgive us. And bad motives will always increase bad desires. Talk about conflicted!īad desires lead to bad motives when the will acts on an evil desire rather than resisting it by God's grace. When that happens, we as Christians can actually start to become "double-minded." This occurs when some of our intentions remain pure, while other motives within us have become impure. One of the many problems with sin is that it has the power to corrupt our motives. The more we embrace good desires and righteous choices with our heart and mind, the more those bad desires decrease in frequency and intensity.
WHERE THE HEART LEADS THE MIND WILL FOLLOW FREE
Your sinful nature is capable of producing an unlimited amount of evil desires, but with your free will as a believer in Jesus, you get to decide which desires to dwell on and which ones to resist. It is helpful to understand that your sinful nature is not the same thing as your heart. The Bible calls that part of us our "sinful nature." And sin is more than just "what we do." It is also part of our being. The element of course which throws a monkey wrench into the mix is sin. Why wouldn't we want to give Him our entire heart, soul and mind? Why wouldn't we want to do the right thing in every situation? Notice the distinction between our "intentions" and our "desires." Intentions, or motives, are what we "want to do" and what we "don't want to do." Desires on the other hand are what we are feeling "drawn to do." Do you see the difference?Ĭhristians want to live for Christ because of what He has done for us. It will be in the direction of godliness and righteousness, as compared to a continual chasing after things which are outside of God's will for your life. If your motives are pure, you will be moving in a good direction. His motives were once again pure, even though his recent actions had been anything but pure. It was too messed up.īut King David did by that time have one good thing in place. It reveals the fact that David knew he was powerless to fix his heart. So he asked God to do it as he prayed these words, "Create in me a pure heart, O God." (Psalm 51:10) The word "create" is hugely significant. But he knew that he was not capable of providing it for himself. That goes to the level of the heart.Īfter his sins of murder and adultery, King David needed a new heart. This means He is looking at more than just your behavior.
God is looking at that place inside you where your mind is constantly weighing various options.
But his follow-through was not always as reliable as his intentions. He truly wanted to do the honorable thing in every situation. He had some serious lapses in judgment, and yet, his heart was right before God. Just look at the apostle Peter for example. We have a tendency to assume that a person's actions tell the whole story. You know, those inner thoughts and desires that your family and friends have no idea are even floating around in your heart and mind. God can see things about you that no one else can see. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7) Where the Heart Leads is absolutely clear about wanting its story to be front and center at all times, but that occasionally comes to the detriment of the overall experience."The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Similar to games like Life is Strange and Telltale's The Walking Dead series, the gameplay is simple and revolves around moving Whit around a space, holding down a button to perform automated actions, and interacting with a plethora of NPCs. Where the Heart Leads is best described as a playable novel, especially since Armature boasts having a script that's 600,000 words in length or around " 5 novels" worth of story. There are significant highs and lows in both the story and the game design that, while frustrating at times, all lead to the same satisfying and bittersweet conclusion. Developed by Armature Games, a team comprised of veterans behind games like Metroid Primeamong others, Where the Heart Leads puts players in the shoes of Whit Anderson as he looks back on the most important times of his life and wonders what he could have done differently.
